CENTERIS 2022 Workshops – 14th International Conference on ENTERprise Information Systems an AIS affiliated conference will take place on November 9 -11, 2022 at Olissipo Oriente Hotel, Lisbon, Portugal. 10th International Conference on Serious Games and Applications for Health, IEEE SeGAH 2022, took place entirely online on August 10-12, 2022. SASYR – Symposium of Applied Science for Young Researchers (2nd Edition) – The 2nd Edition of SASYR – Symposium of Applied Science for Young Researchers took place on June 22, 2022, which brought together master’s students from 3 research centers: ADiT-LAB (IPVC, Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo), 2Ai (IPCA, Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and do Ave) and CeDRI (IPB, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança). This symposium hosted works from young researchers covering research topics of the three research centers ADiT-lab (IPVC, Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo), 2Ai (IPCA, Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave) and CeDRI (IPB, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança). The main objective of SASYR is to provide a friendly and relaxed environment for young researchers to present their work, discuss recent results, and develop new ideas. SASYR received more than 60 submissions which were presented in the oral communications and posters.

Visit of the President of the Portuguese Republic, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to the 2Ai Laboratories, 6 July 2022 – Within the scope of the Ceremony of Homage to Professor Doctor João Carvalho, 2Ai Laboratory was visited by His Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. The President of the Portuguese Republic visited the 2Ai laboratories and meet the research work developed by the 2Ai researchers. The visit was marked by the enthusiasm and good mood shown by the President of the Republic and researchers.

Visit of the participants of the International Computer Programming Education Conference (ICPEC) to the 2Ai Laboratories, 2 June 2022 – 2Ai Laboratory was visited by the participants of the International Computer Programming Education Conference (ICPEC) which takes place on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2022 at the School of Technology in IPCA, Barcelos, Portugal. Participants had the opportunity to meet the research areas and projects developed by 2Ai Laboratory.

Symposium of Applied Research (SAR), 26 May 2022. On May 26, 2022, the 6th edition of the Symposium of Applied Research (SAR) took place at the School of Technology (EST) of IPCA. The 6th Symposium of Applied Research (SAR) is dedicated to research and applied projects carried out by EST | IPCA. In addition to the presentations of students and exhibition of posters, the event will feature a seminar entitled “AI in the fight against content fraud” to be held by João Pedro Rei, Data Scientist at Mobileum. Visit of the RUN-EU Short Advanced Program (SAP) with the theme “Challenging Game Development” participants to the 2Ai Laboratories, 16 May 2021 – On May 16, 2022, 2Ai laboratory was visited by students from 4 European countries (Portugal, Ireland, Austria and Netherlands) that are attending the RUN-EU Short Advanced Program (SAP) with the theme “Challenging Game Development”. This RUN-EU Short Advanced Program (SAP) is coordinated by the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA) and NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences (NHL Stenden).

2Ai on Ciência ´22 – 2Ai laboratory researchers participated in oral communications, poster and demonstration sessions in the Encontro com a Ciência e Tecnologia em Portugal, which took place from 16 to 18 May, 2022, at the Lisbon Congress Centre.

2Ai on Open IPCA 2022 – On May 10 and 11, 2022, 2Ai Laboratory was visited by students from secondary schools of four districts (Braga, Porto, Vila Real and Viana do Castelo) within the scope of the Open IPCA 2022 event promoted by Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA). The Open IPCA 2022 received more than 1000 secondary school students.
Visitors had the opportunity to meet the 2Ai laboratories and the research work developed by the researchers. The visits were marked by the enthusiasm shown by the students.

WAPAIS 2022 – 1st Workshop on Applications of Artificial Intelligence for Society of the 10th International Symposium on Digital Forensics and Security (ISDFS 2022) will be held both ONLINE and in-person in İstanbul, TURKEY on June 6 & 7, 2022
The use of artificial intelligence has been growing in recent years applied in various areas, with visible impacts on society. Such breakthroughs lead to a better welfare of the community and modern society as it is nowadays. In this context, we propose to make this workshop a space for debate about the present and the future of artificial intelligence as a tool to improve the various services, public and private, that support the community, resulting in a substantial increase in the population’s quality of life. Visit of the students of the Clube de Ciência Viva from Rosa Ramalho School, Barcelos to the 2Ai Laboratories – On March 29, 2022, 2Ai Laboratory was visited by the students of the Clube de Ciência Viva from Rosa Ramalho School, Barcelos. Visitors had the opportunity to participate in the workshop with the theme “Inteligência Artificial e Jogos Digitais” promoted by Professor Alberto Simões, followed by a visit to the 2Ai laboratories guided by Professor Fernando Veloso. Finally, the students carried out an activity with the theme “LITTLEBITS” promoted by researchers João Faria and Helena Correia. Visitors got involved in the activities developed with great enthusiasm.

Visit of the Erasmus students to the 2Ai Laboratories – On March 18, 2022, 2Ai Laboratory was visited by the Erasmus students from five European countries (Germany, France, Italy, Romania and Poland) within the scope of the “Fit for Life” project promoted by the Rosa Ramalho School, Barcelos. Visitors had the opportunity to meet the 2Ai laboratories and the research work developed by the researchers. Visitors got involved in the activities developed with great enthusiasm, exceeding their expectations.

Visit of the Erasmus students from five European countries to the 2Ai Laboratories – On March 10, 2022, 2Ai Laboratory was visited by the Erasmus students from five European countries (Spain, Italy, Belgium, Czech Republic and Hungary) within the scope of the “GAMIFIED” project promoted by the Esprominho Vocational School, Braga. Visitors had the opportunity to meet the 2Ai laboratories and the research work developed by the researchers. The visit was marked by the enthusiasm and interest shown by the Erasmus students.

IPCA GameDev Week is back in Barcelos! – On May 27 and 28, the IPCA School of Technology will host professionals from world-renowned studios in the areas of video games and VFX.

Welcome session for the Masters on Applied Artificial Intelligence, 26 November 2021 – On 26th November, took place in the School of Technology the welcome session for the Masters on Applied Artificial Intelligence. It had the participation of a representative of Deloitte, the master’s students, the dean of the School of Technology, the Director of the Applied Artificial Intelligence Lab (2Ai), the course lecturers.

Opinion Article published (MAINTENANCE MAGAZINE OF APMI) – Our 2Ai Researcher, António H.J. Moreira published an opinion article on ” Inteligência artificial e a Internet das coisas no futuro da Manutenção 4.0″ in issue 150/151 of the Maintenance magazine of APMI – Portuguese Association of Industrial Maintenance. According to the researcher, “Nowadays companies and industries have more data at their disposal than ever. But when the focus is the most critical asset, how can we use this data to detect, predict and prevent problems before they happen? Can we intelligently and automatically prescribe the actions and interventions needed to mitigate problems?” Link

2Ai Laboratory’s New Project: Safe Health Elderly Monitoring project, promoted by Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Center (2Ai) of the School of Technology (EST) of the Polytechnic Institute Cávado e Ave (IPCA) was born in 2021. This project aims to develop a wearable device, with several biological sensors, clinically relevant and user-friendly, combined with an environment control station that through artificial intelligence (AI) based on machine learning techniques enables the remote detection of signs of pathologic conditions, as COVID-19 infection, as well the remoting monitoring of the elderly from their home or nursing home. Workshop CNC Milling ::: September 25, 2021 | 9h00 am. The CNC Milling workshop for research into device development took place at the Escola de Tecnologia, on September 25, 2021, from 9 am to 1 pm. The general objectives of the workshop are to introduce researchers to rapid prototyping, using available CNC technology. Practical experience in prototyping is vital to gain confidence, autonomy and feedback on developing new ideas.

The visit of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa to the 2Ai Laboratory. On July 16, 2021, 2Ai Laboratory was visited by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa. In this visit, 2Ai researchers showed their research works and projects.

COVID-19 EARLY DETECTION SYSTEM -The HowMI (How am I?) – HOme Wearables and Monitors Integrated project, promoted by INTELLICARE and the Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Center (2Ai) of the School of Technology (EST) of the Polytechnic Institute Cávado e Ave (IPCA) was born in 2020 and intends to develop a technological solution that addresses the real needs of the social responses of ERPI and SAD that are at the forefront of combating the pandemic of COVID-19. 2Ai Laboratory’s New Project: OncoNavigator – Intelligent System for Personalized Navigation and Mapping of Oncological Interventions project, promoted by Applied Artificial Intelligence Research Center (2Ai) of the School of Technology (EST) of the Polytechnic Institute Cávado e Ave (IPCA) was born in 2021 and in this project, named OncoNavigator, is proposed a novel navigation framework that combines for the first time the information from real-time medical imaging (US) and magnetic breast lesion tracker with a collaborative medical robotic to improve the precision of current breast cancer interventions, while guaranteeing a safe, faster and easier treatment. Visit of the advanced course participants to the 2Ai Laboratories, 16 July 2021. The first edition of the Data Analysis course ended with the visit of the participants to the 2Ai research laboratories. The course took place from the 12th to 16th July 2021, where participants had the opportunity to improve their knowledge about the main data analysis techniques using statistical software and acquire sensitivity to the importance of extracting knowledge from unstructured data.

Data Analysis Course (2Ai Advanced Courses – 2021 Edition), 12 July 2021. The first edition of the Data Analysis course offered by the 2Ai Laboratory and the School of Technology of IPCA started on 12 July 2021. This course is being attended by participants from 4 European countries and focuses on the mathematical basis required for proper statistical data analysis as well as technologies to support them. This advanced course, if one of the different courses being promoted by the 2Ai Laboratory, that focus on different cutting edge areas, such as Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Affective Computing or VFX Effects. link

Symposium of Applied Research (SAR), 27 May 2021. On May 27, 2021, the fifth edition of the Symposium of Applied Research (SAR) took place at the School of Technology (EST) of IPCA. This event was dedicated to the presentation of the work developed in the scope of the dissertations and master’s projects at EST. In this edition, in addition to the presentation of the best dissertations defended in 2019 and 2020, and the best work in progress from the four Masters of this school, there will be a keynote presented by Professor Nuno Dias on applied neuroscience, entitled “MindProber – automated neuroscience from the palm of your hand”. link

2Ai Summer School Event (2020 Edition). On 26 October 2020, the Closing 2Ai Summer School Event was held with the presence by videoconference of Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Professor Manuel Heitor. The students of this summer school had the opportunity to present their research projects developed in this initiative.

Prime Minister, António Costa, visited the 2Ai Laboratory, 13 October, 2020. Prime Minister connected with Artificial Intelligence. António Costa visited the 2Ai Laboratory where the 2Ai researchers had the opportunity to show their research projects at several areas.

9th International Conference on Serious Games and Applications for Health, IEEE SeGAH 2018, to be held on University of Wollongong, Dubai, from 4 – 6 of August 2021. The overall objectives of the conference are the discussion and sharing of knowledge, experiences and scientific and technical results, related to state-of-the-art solutions and technologies on serious games and applications for health and healthcare, as well as the demonstration of advanced products and technologies. link

2Ai participated in the KUKA Innovation Award 2019, being one of the five finalists. The project LASERNAVI was presented in MEDICA fair, Dusseldorf.

2Ai received an award from the European Society for Pediatric Research (ESPR) to promote the development of novel AI methods for the treatment of deformational plagiocephaly.

Symposium on Mathematical Methods for Artificial Intelligence (MMAI 2020) of 18th International Conference of Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics 2020 (ICNAAM 2020) will take place in Rhodes, Greece, from 17th to 23th September, 2020.
