Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee is a consulting board within 2Ai , tasked with providing guidance on ethical issues in the context of research projects.

The Ethics Committee reviews proposals of new research projects in which 2Ai is a partner and provides analysis and feedback on ethical matters raised by the proposed research.

Members

José Henrique Brito

José Henrique Brito holds a PhD in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the University of Minho, a Master’s Degree in Computer Graphics and Virtual Environments also from the University of Minho, and a Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the field of Electronic Systems and Computers from Instituto Superior Técnico.
He is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of the Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Escola Superior de Tecnologia (EST) of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA), having been teaching at this institution since 2004.
He is an integrated researcher at 2Ai – Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at IPCA, participating in several projects in this area. His main research interests are in the field of computer vision, having done research in 3D reconstruction and self-calibration, machine learning, image classification, object detection, semantic segmentation, and human movement analysis. He also has interests in the area of Digital Systems, Microcontrollers, DSPs, GPUs, FPGAs, as means for efficient implementations of artificial intelligence systems.

Pedro Morais

Pedro Morais is an Auxiliary Ph.D. Researcher at 2Ai-IPCA. In 2019, he received a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Porto, Portugal, and Biomedical Sciences from KU Leuven, Belgium (Doctoral thesis under co-supervision). His Ph.D. thesis was a collaborative project between FEUP/INEGI, K. U. Leuven and ICVS/3B’s, focused on the development of novel image-based solutions to improve the planning of left atrial interventions. In 2013, he received an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minho. His dissertation was related to cardiac motion and deformation estimation, in a collaborative project between the University of Minho and K. U. Leuven. Currently, his main interests are imaging processing, image segmentation, image-guided minimally invasive interventions, image tracking, image fusion, robotics and biomedical applications.
